Hearing Tonight on Converting Sewage to Drinking Water

WEST LOS ANGELES — A public hearing on converting sewage to drinking water will be held tonight at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has proposed the $55-million East Valley Water Reclamation project to treat sewage and deliver it to a wide swath of Los Angeles cities. But a storm of public protest and a contentious June public hearing in North Hollywood put the project on hold.
The 7 p.m. hearing will include representatives from the DWP and the state Department of Health Services. The recreation center is at 2551 Motor Ave., Los Angeles, near the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Motor Avenue.
Several issues will be raised at the hearing: public notification about the project, health concerns and which areas of Los Angeles are scheduled to receive the first water supplies.
