Fund-Raiser Set for Cancer Research

Country music performer Ashley Jay of Moorpark will perform a benefit concert Saturday as part of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
In the fund-raising relay, each team member is asked to raise a minimum of $100 from donors beforehand. Participants solicit donations and hold garage sales, carwashes and other activities. The proceeds help fund cancer research and help provide services to cancer patients and their families.
The goal of Relay for Life is to have fun while raising money for the fight against cancer, according to Randall Barondess, spokesman for the event.
Luminarias, or lighted sticks, will be available for purchase at the event to show support of a cancer survivor or to remember a victim of cancer.
Jay, a 16-year-old singer who records for a British record label, will perform with her band, A.C. Baron Music Group. The British music press calls her brand of county music “West Coast Country.”
The Relay for Life begins at 9 a.m. with entertainment from local performers throughout the day at the Moorpark College football stadium, 7075 Campus Road.
Jay will perform at 5 p.m., and the event will culminate with a ceremony of lights beginning at 7 p.m. Stadium admission is free.
