A man was killed and his friend critically injured in a drive-by shooting late Tuesday, police said.

Mark Bostic, 45, and an unidentified 35-year-old friend were talking in front of 530 73rd St. when the shooting occurred about 9:35 p.m., said Los Angeles police Lt. Michelle Veenstra of the 77th Division.

Bostic was sitting in his 1986 Ford Topaz and his friend was standing outside the passenger side door, Veenstra said.

Some people drove up in a beige vehicle and exchanged words with Bostic, Veenstra said. The suspects then opened fire without warning, striking Bostic and his friend several times, Veenstra said. Bostic was struck in the head and died at the scene. His friend was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Veenstra said.

The suspects were last seen fleeing west on Hoover Street.
