Mater Dei’s Novak Signs With Loyola

Mater Dei midfielder Kevin Novak, a first-team Times’ Orange County selection, signed with Loyola Marymount, according to Mater Dei Coach Martin Stringer. Novak, the Southern Section Division II player of the year and defensive MVP of the Serra League, also was recruited by UC Irvine, UC San Diego and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Stringer also announced that goalkeeper Radames Lafaurie has signed with Jacksonville. Lafaurie had 14 shutouts and was third-team all-section.
TRACK AND FIELD
Esperanza’s Shalanie Ross heads a group of track and field athletes who signed with Cal State Fullerton, the school announced Monday.
Ross is among the county leaders in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and also anchors the Aztecs’ 1,600 relay team, which finished sixth at the Southern Section Division I finals Saturday.
Also signing with the Titans were Fred Williams of Van Nuys Taft High, ranked among the top five in the nation in the 200 meters by Track and Field News.
The others include Melvin Hayes from Los Angeles Dorsey High, Todd Coshow from Western State, Yosanda Gahr from Cerritos High, Giovanna Mendola from Van Nuys Birmingham, and Lawrenthia Usher from Alabama State.
