* Keosha Wilkes defeated Liz Sanchez, 6-2, 6-3, to win the girls’ 18-and-under division of the seventh annual East Valley junior satellite tournament May 14 at Cal State Northridge.

Wilkes, a Canoga Park resident, is a senior at Cleveland High.

BASEBALL

* Dane Sardinha of Pepperdine is one of 10 finalists for the inaugural Johnny Bench National Collegiate Catcher of the Year award. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the College World Series.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Sprinter Fred Williams of Taft High, who had reportedly committed to Cal State Northridge last week, has signed with Cal State Fullerton, Titan assistant coach Chris Asher said Monday.

Williams, who did not run for Taft last year, has developed into one of the top competitors in the state with bests of 10.68 in the 100 meters and 21.13 in the 200.

* Yadi Ramirez of Ventura College, Marilyn Smith of Fresno Clovis West High and Jillian Harang of Rialto Eisenhower have signed with the Cal State Northridge women’s program.

Ramirez, a graduate of Nordhoff High, placed sixth in the state junior college cross-country championships last November.

Smith ran a career best of 2:15.90 in the 800 to place third in the Central Section championships on Thursday.

Harang is a 400 specialist who has run in the mid-56s on relay legs.

* Notre Dame has begun searching for a girls’ soccer coach after the resignation of Neezor McNab.
