Jody Gibson
* Re Jody “Babydol†Gibson’s sentencing hearing, where Judge Lloyd M. Nash described the convicted madam or her case as “tragic and pathetic†(May 16): What is truly pathetic is the district attorney’s and court’s sanctioned suppression of evidence of both the Beverly Hills detective who shielded her from prosecution while carrying on an affair with her and Gibson’s 400 “customers†who are in fact “criminalsâ€--that is if you believe that Gibson’s victimless conduct is criminal. What is tragic is that the taxpayers have to pay not only this trial but approximately $75,000 for her three years in jail.
Yes, it’s tragic and pathetic that the double standard is alive and well in our justice system and that no one has the guts to change the enforcement of the laws that oppress and victimize women. Why is it a wrong for the women but not the men?

I was caught in a “sting operation†once, years ago. Within an hour there must have been 30 of us men crowded in the motel room waiting for the bus to take us to jail. I thought then what a terrible waste of police resources to stage this entrapment, as well as unnecessary social costs to society for the damage to girlfriends, wives, security clearances, etc. But at least the law was being applied to us men, one-half the equation, for a change.
In Gibson’s case, the law could have been applied to both parties, but to do so would expose important people. So much for “justice.†Like me, she should not get jail time.
