Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 23-year-old San Fernando man on suspicion of breaking into a Palmdale home and raping a 15-year-old girl who was baby-sitting three infants, authorities said Monday.
Officials said Luis Garcia Hernandez was pushing an ice cream cart in the 38700 block of 10th Street East about 5:50 p.m. Sunday when he saw the girl through a sliding glass door.
Hernandez allegedly entered the home through the unlocked door, grabbed the girl and took her to a back bedroom where he raped her, said Sgt. Russ Hill of the sheriff’s station in Palmdale.
The girl was baby-sitting three infants ranging from 3 months to 7 months old.
After Hernandez fled the home, sheriff’s deputies said, the victim immediately called authorities to report the incident and give a description of the assailant.
Hill said deputies arrested Hernandez about a block from the house.
He has been charged with burglary and rape and was taken to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, Hill said.
Hernandez is to be arraigned today, he said.
