Exhibit
View the California Sesquicentennial Quilt during its only Orange County showing at the historic Bradford House in Placentia. The 10-by-10-foot applique quilt is the product of 15 months of work, 67 quilt artists and 150 specially selected quilters from California. Each artist’s work depicts a scene from California, such as Yosemite and the Chumash Indians. Combined, the images capture the essence of the Golden State. First displayed at the 1998 California State Fair, it has since been shown at several county fairs, quilt shows and special exhibits. This fall the quilt will return to Sacramento, where it will be placed in the Golden State Museum.
* The California Sesquicentennial Quilt exhibit, the Bradford House, 136 Palm Circle, Placentia. On display daily through Monday, 1-4 p.m.; extended hours Friday, 7-9 p.m. $2. (714) 993-2470.

Dan Hicks may have looked like just another hippie when he and his Hot Licks band cropped up in the Bay Area in the late ‘60s. But the moment he started reeling off those oh-so-nimble chord progressions, it was clear he had more in common with Django Reinhardt than Jerry Garcia. After a couple of decades exploring jazz with his Acoustic Warriors, Hicks has assembled a group of high-powered friends, including Bette Midler, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Rickie Lee Jones and Brian Setzer, for a new album due in July. Hicks is on a tour that comes to the Coach House tonight. A bonus on a bill that needs none is O.C. singer-songwriter Kerry Getz.
* Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano. With Kerry Getz, Janet Robin. 8 p.m. $12.50 to $14.50. (949) 496-8930.
