Re “11 Students Suspended Over Crudity in Newspaper,” March 26: As I understand the Bill of Rights, it is to protect citizens from injustice. When lies are printed, justice is not done. With the Bill of Rights goes responsibility and I feel that none was shown here.

Relative to the comment that if they had intended to harm someone they would have brought guns to school: Evidently they are not aware that “the pen is mightier than the sword.” The Bible, Koran and other religious books have had a greater influence on the world than all of the armaments that have ever been made.

I hope that as a result of their actions they will have a special class in studying the Bill of Rights and try to understand what our forefathers were trying to get across.

The guarantee, “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of the press,” has been knocked on the head pretty often; but in using it to excuse their newspaper, students of Palisades Charter High School take the cake. Civilization (excluding the boors) can tolerate anything but bad manners. Vulgarity for most people will always have a bad smell.
