YORBA LINDA

The North Orange County Community College District may close its Fairmont Boulevard campus because of low enrollment.

The district is having the 17-acre parcel appraised and is considering putting the land up for sale, district spokeswoman Donna Hatchett said Friday. Since 1965, the Yorba Linda School of Continuing Education has served residents of Yorba Linda, Placentia, Anaheim and Orange. About 9,000 students enroll every year.

But the population of the area just has not grown as much as the district expected when it bought the property 36 years ago, Hatchett said.

A facilities master plan prepared by the district last year recommended moving the campus to a more heavily populated city such as Anaheim, she said.
