Quick! Guess That Famous Person
These are the rules for Celebrity, courtesy of Jenji Kohan:
Gather at least six people in one room. Each person writes down 20 names of famous people or fictional characters--any name that people ought to know--on scraps of paper.
Fold the scraps in half, put them into a big bowl or, in Kohan’s case, a big cooking pot.
Divide the group into two teams.
The first player takes the bowl and has one minute (someone on the opposite team handles the timer) to get teammates to guess the names on as many of the scraps as possible. (Example: If the scrap says “Angelyne,” the hint might be: “Big-bosomed billboard.” If it says Rose Kennedy and the player doesn’t recognize her name, the player may say, “Her first name is a flower. Her last name starts with the name of Barbie’s boyfriend.”
No “sounds like” or “rhymes with” clues are allowed. If a name is difficult, the player must struggle through it. Once teammates guess the name, the scrap is tossed, and another one is plucked from the bowl. At the end of a minute, the other team has its turn. And so on, until the bowl is empty. The team that gets the most names wins.
