Center Helps Seniors Prepare Tax Forms

Dozens of senior citizens left the West Valley Jewish Community Center pleased with the help they received Monday on their tax forms, center officials said.
For the past 30 years during tax season, volunteers at the center have helped the elderly prepare their state and federal income tax returns at no charge.
This year’s service ends April 17, said program director Seville Porush.
The center takes appointments from clients who are 55 years and older who earn less than $55,000 a year, said program coordinator Lou Grossman.
“We have more people this year,” Grossman said. “The senior citizens who come here leave very happy.”
Porush said she has received thank-you notes from clients for the help they received handling complicated financial matters.
“It takes a group of volunteers to make it work,” Porush said.
Six other locations in the Valley offer similar services, Grossman said. For more information, visit the West Valley Jewish Community Center at 22622 Vanowen St. or call (818) 464-3300.
