Eagles Win Costa Mesa Tournament

Laurelle Grove’s eighth-inning single drove home Lynn Andrews with the winning run to help Capistrano Valley Christian defeat Anaheim, 7-6, in the Costa Mesa softball tournament final Saturday at Tewinkle Park.
After the Colonists had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth, Capistrano Valley Christian (4-0) tied the score, 6-6, on a throwing error by Anaheim. Grove’s one-out single minutes later sealed the victory.
Winning pitcher Lauren Capriotti (3-0) struck out 11 and gave up five hits and one earned run for the Eagles.
Capistrano Valley Christian defeated Los Amigos, 3-2, in a semifinal. Cari Fouse had three hits and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie.
In a consolation game:
Laguna Beach 8, Santa Ana 3--Kelsey Offield had four hits and four RBIs for Laguna Beach (1-3).
In the Brea Olinda tournament final:
Esperanza 3, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 2--Melissa Fox had three hits, two RBIs and scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for Esperanza (4-0). Kristen Dedman, the tournament’s MVP, struck out 11, giving up three hits and one earned run for the Aztecs.
In the Corona tournament:
Canyon 6, Rialto Eisenhower 3--Ashley Becker had three hits and two RBIs for Canyon (4-3) in the consolation game. Nicole King gave up four hits and three unearned runs for the Comanches.
In the Cypress tournament:
Huntington Beach 8, Ocean View 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Winning pitcher Ashley Perkins gave up only three hits as the Oilers (2-1) won the consolation final. Huntington Beach’s Danielle Stilwell earned all-tournament honors.
Edison 2, San Pedro 0--Kelly Birk pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out six and walking two. Kendra Tarrant had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth for the Chargers.
In the San Dimas tournament:
Mater Dei 5, San Dimas 0--Lauren Ortega hit a two-run triple for Mater Dei (5-0). Pitcher Tia Bollinger (5-0) struck out 13. In an earlier game, Bollinger struck out 10 as the Monarchs defeated Rowland Heights Rowland, 6-1.
In the Western Christian tournament:
Chino 7, Whittier Christian 3--All-tournament selection Vanessa Zamora had two hits and two RBIs in the final for Whittier Christian (2-2). Jennifer Benavidez and Tammy Fox also earned all-tournament honors.
In nonleague games:
Liberty Christian 13-9, Murrieta Calvary Chapel 6-10--Briana Barton stole five bases for Liberty Christian (1-1) in the first game of the doubleheader. Tristan Fernandez had two hits, including a double in the second game for Liberty Christian.
Marina 2-2, Woodbridge 1-0--Carrie Hagen hit a home run in the fifth for Marina (3-0) in the first game. Hagen had four hits and two RBIs in the doubleheader. Woodbridge is 2-2.
