The principals of Barbara Benson Elementary and Columbus Tustin middle schools have given the Tustin Unified School Board a proposal to make each campus a magnet school in the fall.
Magnet schools offer specific programs for which anyone in the district can apply.
After a year of study, Benson parents and administrators decided that the school’s focus should remain on keeping strong academic programs. Columbus Tustin wants to offer an applied math and science program that would involve a two-period combined math and science class so students could explore in-depth topics.
Board members are scheduled to act on the proposal Monday.
