* AMR Corp.’s American Airlines plans to spend about $45 million in the next three years to offer computers and Internet access at low cost to 100,000 workers, following similar moves by Ford Motor Co. and Delta Air Lines Inc. Employees at American, the No. 2 U.S. airline, and AMR’s American Eagle commuter carrier will pay no more than $12 a month for a computer, software, printer and Internet access. After three years, the computer becomes the employee’s property.
* FedEx Corp.’s Federal Express, the world’s largest shipping company, plans to charge 1% more for most domestic and international shipments to make up for higher fuel costs. The increase is scheduled to start April 1 and follows a 3% boost Feb. 1. The company also raised to 15 cents a kilo from 10 cents a rate increase it put in place Feb. 1 on FedEx Airport-to-Airport and FedEx International Express Freight shipments.
* Texaco Inc. said it’s dropping out of the Global Climate Coalition, an industry-funded group that says science hasn’t proved the global warming theory. Auto makers Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler didn’t renew their memberships this year. Among oil companies, Royal Dutch/Shell Group and BP Amoco quit in the last few years, and Exxon Mobil Corp. and Chevron Corp. remain members.
