Government to Keep Avoiding ‘Myanmar’

Sweden said it will continue to call Myanmar “Burma” despite a rebuke by the Southeast Asian country’s military rulers. Foreign Minister Anna Lindh, who has revived Sweden’s traditional support for human rights campaigns, told Swedish media, “It was a conscious political point against the military dictatorship in Burma, since it was the military that changed the country’s name to Myanmar in 1989.”
