Steinbeck Festival Marking 20th Year
Tickets are still available for most events at this year’s Steinbeck Festival, which runs Thursday through Aug. 6 and marks its 20th anniversary in Salinas, Calif.
The theme this year is “From Manuscript to Masterpiece: John Steinbeck and the Arts.” Highlights include a marathon three-part stage adaptation of the author’s novel “East of Eden” by Salinas’ Western Stage (10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Aug. 6, $18 per play), a book collectors’ fair (9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 5), Steinbeck-related films and tours of Salinas sites important to the author’s life and work. A $50 Festival Passport covers four days of events; bought separately, most events cost about $5. Call the National Steinbeck Center at (831) 775-4737 or visit the Internet site https://www.steinbeck.org.
