Hopefully, Their Life Will Never Be Incomplete
What will pillow talk be like in the Frerotte household this fall?
Gus Frerotte is the Denver Bronco quarterback. His wife, Ann, is trying out for quarterback with the Colorado Valkyries, Denver’s new Women’s Professional Football League franchise.
“Her [football coach] dad taught her how to throw a football when she was very young,” Frerotte said. “It’s been in her blood for a long time.”

Trivia time: Who is Del Mar’s all-time winning jockey?
*
One left out: Reader John Latham of Redondo Beach writes to protest the absence of Willie Davis’ name among Roosevelt High grads in a recent Morning Briefing, noting that the former Dodger outfielder played in the 1956 City championship baseball game against Canoga Park.
Latham, the Canoga Park first baseman, also notes that the Hunters beat Davis’ team, 8-7, in 19 innings, the longest championship game in City prep history. Both pitchers went all the way, City football player of the year Joe Doolittle winning over Danny Ornelas.

Priorities: Kenneth Dye, Notre Dame’s associate director of bands, will compose the music for a 2,000-person ensemble in the opening ceremony at the Sydney Olympics--but he won’t be there to hear it. He will be in South Bend, Ind., where Notre Dame will be playing Purdue in football.
P.S. Dye is a USC graduate.

Comparisons: Women’s fast-pitch softball is one of the fastest growing college sports, but it invariably draws comparisons with the slow-pitch game. Says former Cal State Fullerton star Jody Roginson, now working with Washington: “A fast-pitch enthusiast would say slow-pitch is something you play when you want to retire. Or drink beer.”

Different strokes: When Winston Cup drivers have a rare weekend off, most spend leisure time with their families, or perhaps head for the nearest short track to have some fun. Not Dale Earnhardt Jr. The newest NASCAR star hung out with his favorite band, Third Eye Blind.
“We met the band and had a few beers with them backstage,” Earnhardt said. “They all travel in rough ol’ buses and sleep in bunks one on top of the other, going from gig to gig every night. The Cup schedule is tough, but after seeing that, I’m not sure I’d trade places with those guys.”

Trivia answer: Laffit Pincay Jr., 916 victories in 24 seasons.

And finally: Gymnastic all-around champion Blaine Wilson has let his dyed blond hair grow out, but he still may have an eye-catcher for Australian fans at the Sydney Olympics--a tongue bar.
“I just decided I was getting sick of what other people think,” the quirky gymnast said after having given in to his coaches and father about his body piercings. “It’s not like I’m going to stick my tongue out during the meet.”
