Concorde Crash
* In viewing the panoramic television coverage of the tragic Concorde crash site, I was struck by the rural setting of Paris’ Charles DeGaulle airport. What kind of madness is it to even be considering the placement of a major commercial airport in the midst of heavily urbanized Orange County--an airport abandoned by the Marines partially because of urban encroachment?
It is painfully obvious that any increase in regional air traffic capacity belongs in the nonurbanized areas of eastern L.A. County and the Inland Empire, closer to where 93% of the region’s population growth will take place to the year 2020. That an airport reuse of El Toro has even been considered is insane.
