Vegetarian Group to Hold Food and Music Festival in Van Nuys
VAN NUYS — A nonprofit group dedicated to vegetarianism will hold a food and music festival Sunday in Woodley Park.
The event sponsored by Towards Freedom will include celebrity appearances, speakers, vegan food booths, live music, pet adoptions and children’s performers. The Jazz Crusaders will headline.
The celebrity lineup includes Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Nealon and Linda Blair. Among the speakers are John Robbins, author of “Diet for a New America,” and cattle rancher turned vegan activist Howard Lyman.
Musical guests include Common Sense, Sonia Santos & the Brazil Band, Jillian Speer and the Pegasus project.
Food booths will offer cuisine from local restaurants and national natural-foods companies. Health booths will include chiropractors, massage therapists and naturopaths.
“The purpose of WorldFest is to motivate people toward a more compassionate lifestyle,” said Sangita Kumar, event coordinator.
“We want to show people there is a better way of life where no living being has to be harmed.”
