Tarzana’s Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan defeated Brazil’s Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede, 15-11, to win the FIVB’s French Open in Marseilles, France, Sunday.
Davis and Johnson Jordan won $26,000 with the victory, their first in eight tries against Behar and Bede, the FIVB’s top-ranked team this season. Davis and Johnson Jordan are ranked second.
Davis and Johnson Jordan have 2,676 Olympic qualification ranking points to lead the U.S. Second-place Misty May and Holly McPeak have 2,402, but they didn’t play in France and will also miss this week’s FIVB event in Portugal because May is recovering from a stomach muscle injury. The top two ranked teams from each country qualify for the Olympics.
In the men’s FIVB event at Marseilles, Brazil’s ZeMarco deMelo and Ricardo Santos defeated Norway’s Jorre Kjemperud and Vegard Hoidalen, 15-13, to win the $26,000 first prize.
