Will These X-Men Be a Real Hit?

Pro football (non-Arena variety) has returned to Los Angeles, but why would anyone pay to watch the XFL when they can see mediocre football by attending a Bruin or Trojan game? The league will become the Ex-FL within two years unless Vince McMahon draws on his wrestling background and adds some extra fillips to make the game more interesting.

As McMahon knows, there’s a large contingent of sports fans who are especially turned on by blood and guts. To attract this group, he can add some wrestling techniques to the standard NFL rule book. For example, the XFL might legalize the hammerlock, the body slam, eye-gouging and the 3F maneuver (Flying Facial Flatulence.)

To make it even bloodier, and draw even larger crowds, they could play without helmets. There’s certainly no danger of brain damage.

Leave it to The Times to state that J.K. McKay’s acceptance of the presidency of the Los Angeles entry to the XFL legitimizes the XFL.

Wrong. What it does is define the McKays.
