1 Killed, 5 Injured as Tour Bus, Car Collide
LONG BEACH — One man was killed and five people were injured Friday when a tour bus and a car collided at an intersection after one of the vehicles apparently ran a red light, police reported.
Neil Kindler, 29, of Long Beach, died at the scene of the crash about 12:30 a.m. at Atlantic Avenue and East 6th Street, said Officer David Marander, a police spokesman.
Kindler was driving a 1991 Ford Escort east on 6th when it collided with a chartered bus going south on Atlantic Avenue, Marander said. The bus veered onto the grounds of Stevenson Elementary School, hitting the corner of a building.
“Detectives believe one of the vehicles failed to stop at the intersection’s red light, but it is unclear which driver is at fault,” Marander said.
The four passengers on the bus and its driver were treated for minor injuries. Police interviewed the 44-year-old bus driver, but no citations were issued Friday, Marander said.
