LAGUNA BEACH
Pregnant women visiting the Laguna Beach Community Clinic can receive a free gift basket as part of a recently started program.
Maria Hernandez, a billing department employee, came up with the idea to give mothers an incentive to continue seeking prenatal care.
The clinic has given out 15 baskets so far, which include donated items like baby shampoo, baby formula, nutritional information, a blanket from the nonprofit Binky Patrol and booklets in Spanish and English about prenatal development.
The clinic treats about 50 pregnant women per month, Hernandez said. About 70% of the 16,000 people who visited the past year were women and children. About 93% of all patients are below the poverty level.
Information: Hernandez at (949) 494-0761, Ext. 22.
