The Tennessee Titans and Eddie George reached agreement on a six-year, $42-million contract extension through the 2006 season that will make George the highest-paid running back in the NFL, his agent said.

Agent Lamont Smith said the agreement includes a $14-million signing bonus and $1 million guarantees in the fourth and fifth years.

The Jacksonville Jaguars waived Tavian Banks after the running back, once thought of as their most versatile threat, was unable to pass a physical after a devastating knee injury last season. . . . Defensive tackle Eric Swann called off a planned visit to Denver as he weighed playing for the Carolina Panthers or the Chicago Bears. . . . The Washington Redskins agreed to terms with No. 3 overall draft pick Chris Samuels, a tackle from Alabama. . . . A hearing has been set for Sept. 8 to decide a motion to separate the sexual assault cases of former Green Bay Packer tight end Mark Chmura and his friend Robert Gessert. . . .
