New Numbers Slow Fox’s ‘X-Men’

Fox overestimated by $3 million on Sunday, but when final box-office figures came in Monday, “X-Men” had grossed $54.5 million. Had the initial numbers held, “X-Men” would have had the fourth-biggest three-day opening of any film, but the new numbers place it in sixth place in that department.
Meanwhile, the overall box office is 5.8% ahead of last year at this time. “Just three weeks ago we were all gloom and doom,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of the box office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations. “Now, we’re very optimistic about the summer.”
“Chuck & Buck” debuted with $72,831 in limited release.
