SHANGHAI — A mudslide set off by heavy rains buried scores of houses in central China, killing at least 119 villagers, an official said today.
The disaster struck rural Ziyang county in Shanxi province late Thursday night, the region’s Anti-Flood Office said. Torrential rains fell in the area from Tuesday to Friday.
The disaster brings to at least 564 the number of people killed in summer flooding throughout China this year.
