LOS ANGELES — A South-Central Los Angeles man was sentenced Friday to three years in jail for molesting and attempting to abduct a 14-year-old girl as she walked home from school.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Paula Mabrey, who handed down the sentence, ordered Jose Ibares, 21, to register as a sex offender and reinstated his probation from a 1999 conviction for spousal battery.
Ibares was convicted last month of sexual battery, child molestation, child endangerment and false imprisonment in connection with the Feb. 15 attack on the girl near Normandie Avenue and 41st Street.
Detectives say Ibares grabbed the girl, rubbed against her and attempted to drag her into his car before she broke free and called police.
Ibares also has convictions in a 1999 peeping Tom case and in a 1998 case in which he brandished a replica gun at a police officer, prosecutors said.
