Troubled Dairy Firm Suspends Production

Japan’s biggest maker of dairy products will suspend production nationwide today to inspect its factories after thousands of people were sickened by tainted milk, Kyodo News agency and Asahi TV said, quoting company officials. Snow Brand Milk Products Co. was forced into the recall after more than 11,000 people fell ill in the nation’s worst case of food poisoning in decades. Bacteria that had accumulated in a production line valve was blamed.
