At the urging of Councilman Dave Christensen, City Council members are scheduled tonight to discuss a campaign-reform initiative that has pitted city officials against the Ralph Nader-led Oaks Project.
In a memo to City Manager Allison Hart, who assembles the council’s agenda, Christensen requested that his colleagues hold a public hearing so Oaks Project members can air their opinions.
“While I have serious misgivings regarding [the measure’s] constitutionality and effectiveness, I believe those who have taken the time to gather the signatures should have the opportunity to discuss this matter with the council in open session,†he wrote.
The measure was killed last week when roughly 2,800 of more than 12,000 petition signatures gathered by the Oaks Project were deemed invalid.
