A Difference of Opinion on Church Make-Over

As a former parishioner of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, I was amazed to read that “thestained glass window behind the altar blinded you when you looked in that direction,” (“Church Restorer Puts His Faith in the Power of Gothic Design,” June 20). This unique work of art by a famous artist was a source of joy and inspiration to those of us who attended this church for many years and, far from being blinded, we were grateful for it.

I’m glad you included a picture of it so readers can get some idea of how magnificent it was before it was unnecessarily obscured by the present trite redo. We each have our own concepts of interior design, but it is a shame that the donations of church members went for pointless interior decoration rather than to help the poor and homeless.
