Sister Act Qualifies for Main Draw at Seal Beach Open

Katie and Tracy Lindquist, sisters who went to Ocean View High, teamed up and qualified for the main draw of the Seal Beach Women’s Volleyball Open Friday.

Katie, who attends the University of San Diego, and Tracy, who goes to USC, will play Danalee Bragado of Redondo Beach and Ali Wood of Long Beach today in the 24-team double-elimination tournament.

Kristen Keefe of Laguna Beach and Dianne DeNechochea of La Jolla also qualified and will meet Pat Killany of Lake Forest and Allison Block of San Diego today.

In the FIVB men’s tour stop in Stavanger, Norway, Dain Blanton and Eric Fonoimoana defeated two teams from Russia to advance to today’s third round. Eighth-seeded Blanton, a former Laguna Beach High School standout who now plays at Pepperdine, and Fonoimoana of Hermosa Beach defeated Sergey Sayfulin and Dmitri Karasev, 15-12, in the first round and then beat Sergey Ermichin and Mikhail Kouchnerev, 15-8, in Round 2.

Blanton and Fonoimoana will play top-seeded Jose de Melo and Ricardo Santos of Brazil today.

Sinjin Smith (Pacific Palisades) and Carl Henkel (Redondo Beach), and Kevin Wong (Playa del Rey) and Rob Heidger (Manhattan Beach) play in elimination matches today, after both teams lost their opening round matches.
