Tutors for Kids

* There is nothing in life quite like a child’s spontaneous show of affection. How could anything compare to the warmth and sincerity of those small arms around one’s neck? Gus blessed me with that delectable sensation the other day.

Here’s how that came about. Each Thursday morning I go to Portola Elementary School to tutor three energetic second-graders: Gus, Vance and Cody. They all needed a little boost in reading skills and sometimes in math,

It’s part of a program of the Rotary Club of Ventura East. During the school term they read to me and I to them, sometimes alternating paragraphs. It has been a real treat watching the boys improve. All three worked so hard and made so much progress that I gave each of them a little reward, for which they thanked me. My hug from Gus was a huge emotional reward for me.

Would you like to share in an unmitigated pleasure? All you have to do is set aside an hour or so each week and receive a brief bit of training. Believe me, you will love it.

Please call me at 644-1571 to sign up. Before you know it, you will get your hugs too.

And somewhere down the line, a long time from now, a successful adult will say to his or her family, “The ability to read well has been one of the most important things in my life. Just one more time I would like to be able to hug the people who taught me. I think I will go sign up to tutor at the local grammar school.”

Try it. You will love it too.
