Body Found in Trunk of Burning Car
A charred body was found in the trunk of a burning car Monday afternoon in a remote area of Irvine, police said.
Orange County firefighters responded to a 2:44 p.m. call about a vehicle on fire in a vacant lot near Laguna Canyon Road and Waterworks Way.
“It was completely engulfed in flames shooting 30 feet in the air,†said Lt. Dave Freedland, a spokesman for the Irvine Police Department. “The fire was extinguished within minutes, leaving only the metal shell of the vehicle with its interior compartment destroyed.â€
The body inside the vehicle was burned beyond recognition, investigators said. The death is being investigated as a homicide. “At this point we don’t know a thing,†Freedland said.
Police ask that anyone with information call Irvine investigator Gary Cain at (949) 724-7171.
