Mexican Consul Acted Correctly
* Re “Balancing Activism, Diplomacy,†Jan. 16 editorial:
You rightly point out that the Mexican consul in Santa Ana, Miguel Angel Isidro, acts within established diplomatic standards in defending the rights of Mexican immigrants.
Critics of the Mexican government show the typical double standards applied to the activities of other countries while ignoring similar, or unlawful, U.S. behavior abroad.
Let us not forget the numerous invasions and military attacks perpetrated by the American government against Third World countries allegedly to protect the lives of American citizens living in Latin America or the Caribbean.
Let us not ignore either the contradiction inherent in purporting to have the United States the “moral leader†of the world, while criticizing the defense of the rights of Mexican immigrants.
Moreover, all of us who live here benefit personally and economically from their work, without which we could not enjoy the high standards of living that we do.
