Pepperdine Rolls to Fifth Win in Row

Tommie Prince scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds Friday night as Pepperdine defeated Santa Clara, 71-60, at Santa Clara.

Kelvin Gibbs also had 10 rebounds to go with 10 points and Tezale Archie added 10 points and seven assists as the Waves, 13-5 overall and 3-0 in the West Coast Conference, moved back into a first-place tie with Gonzaga.

Nathan Fast scored 19 points to lead Santa Clara (10-8, 1-2) and become the 23rd player to score more than 1,000 in a career for the Broncos. The senior guard has 1,010. Darrell Teat added 12 points.

Pepperdine, which never trailed after the first minute, matched its season high with its fifth consecutive victory.

Santa Clara scored the first five points of the second half to close within one point, but couldn’t gain the lead despite numerous opportunities over the next several minutes.

The Broncos were still within one with less than 13 minutes to play, but David Lalazarian made two three-point shots to ignite a 12-3 Wave run over the next seven minutes to give Pepperdine a double-digit lead with 5:56 left.

Prince scored eight points in the first four minutes as Pepperdine opened an eight-point lead en route to a 42-36 halftime advantage.

San Francisco 83, Loyola Marymount 66--Darrell Tucker scored 20 points to lead the Dons (13-3, 1-2) over the Lions (2-14, 0-3) in a WCC game at San Francisco.

Reserve Stanley Thorne led Loyola with 18 points.

No. 18 Old Dominion 75, George Mason 56--Lucienne Berthieu had 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Monarchs (12-3, 5-0) stretched their Colonial Athletic Assn. winning streak to 88 games with a rout of the Patriots (5-10, 1-3) at Fairfax, Va.

No. 20 Tulane 92, Houston 74--Sarah Goree scored 11 of her 20 points in the first 5 1/2 minutes to propel the Green Wave (15-2, 4-2) over the Lady Cougars (5-11, 2-4) in a Conference USA game at Houston.

Stanford 83, California 57--Lindsey Yamasaki, who rejoined the basketball team after helping the volleyball team reach the national championship game, scored 17 points to lead the Cardinal (11-4, 4-1) over the Golden Bears (5-10, 0-5) in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Palo Alto.
