City to Use Grant to Update Pioneer Park
Led by Councilman Richard Ramos’ campaign to improve a park he used regularly as a child, the City Council this week unanimously approved $378,000 to refurbish Pioneer Park.
The money will be used to purchase field lights and remodel restrooms and concession stands, among other things, Ramos said.
The 5.2-acre park has two baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, a picnic area and a roller hockey rink.
“That park has not received any money in eight years,†Ramos said. “I grew up around the corner from there, and I figured we need to better utilize this park.â€
The money will come from the Community Development Block Grant that San Fernando receives annually from Los Angeles County.
Work will begin in March of next year. Pioneer Park is at 828 Harding Ave.
