A Van Nuys man died after a truck he was traveling in overturned early Thursday and caught fire on the Hollywood Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 20-year-old man, whose name was unavailable, was pronounced dead at the scene about 4:50 a.m., CHP Officer Richard Perez said. The Victory Boulevard offramp was closed for about 4 1/2 hours while workers cleaned up the wreckage, he said.
Another person, either the driver or a passenger, was in the truck, fled and is being sought, Perez said.
The truck, which was transporting onions, was traveling north at normal speed when it drifted to the right and into the Victory offramp’s gore point, an area separated from traffic.
The driver overcorrected to the left and the truck tipped to its right side, skidding down the offramp and causing sparks, Perez said.
