Partly Buried Human Remains Found by Surveyor Near Fillmore

Partly buried human remains were discovered Friday afternoon about 50 feet below Grimes Canyon Road between Fillmore and Moorpark, authorities reported.
The discovery was made shortly before dusk by a surveyor who was working in the area, which is about six miles south of Fillmore near the road’s summit, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Keith Parks.
At nightfall, a deputy was posted at the site to guard the remains, and authorities will return this morning to retrieve them, Parks said. Pieces of a pair of pants were found nearby, authorities said.
“We have no idea if this is connected to any reported missing person in this county,” Parks said.
A helicopter will fly over the site and take pictures about 8 a.m., shortly before search and rescue workers rappel down the mountain.
