Child Support Bureau Expands Hotline Hours

A hotline for questions about child support payments expanded its hours as of Monday, the county district attorney’s office said.

Parents can now talk with trained child support workers on the toll-free Child Support Information Line from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The office advises parents to call before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. for fastest service.

The hotline number is (800) 615-8858.

The district attorney’s Bureau of Family Support Operations, which collects, supervises and enforces child support payments for 555,000 cases across Los Angeles County, also has changed its weekend days of operation for all of its offices. Workers will be available on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Offices are located in Commerce, El Segundo, Encino, Palmdale, Torrance and West Covina.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred and can be made though the hotline. Last year, the office was open on the second and third Saturdays.

The changes are part of the bureau’s efforts to meet the needs of working parents, who often cannot make appointments for business hours. Officials said the 24-hour hotline opened last October and has received more than 2.5 million calls.

Officials said the hotline has an automated feature as well. Parents can use an assigned personal identification number to get basic child support payment information such as due dates and amounts.
