About 100 people have been killed in Burundi in clashes between Burundian and Rwandan rebel groups that normally are staunch allies, state radio said. The fighting reportedly took place last week around Tenga, just north of Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura, after Rwandan rebels accused allies in Burundi of betraying them. There was no independent confirmation of the report. More than 200,000 people have been killed in Burundi since 1993 in attacks by Hutu rebels and reprisals by the country’s Tutsi-led army.
