Surveillance cameras at Del Obispo Street and Ortega Highway will begin photographing red-light runners today. But for now, violators will be issued only warnings.
City Engineer Bill Huber said the warning period will last a minimum of 30 days but may be extended. Regular traffic tickets will be issued after that.
He said there may be up to 20 violations a day in the beginning before an average of four a day is reached.
Five other intersections are expected to have cameras installed in the near future: Del Obispo Street at Camino Capistrano and Camino Del Avion, Camino Capistrano at San Juan Creek Road and Stonehill Drive, and Ortega Highway at Rancho Viejo Road.
