* Capistrano Valley defender Sarah Banks has committed to play soccer at Arizona, she said. Banks played three varsity seasons for the Cougars, at 16-1 the top-ranked team in the county.

Jayson Simpson, a freshman punter/wide receiver at Fullerton College, has committed to Fresno State, according to his father Bill.

Simpson, a Times all-county selection at Pacifica High in 1998, was an honorable mention J.C. Grid-Wire All-American punter and a second-team All-Mission Conference receiver last year.He averaged 42 yards a punt and caught 32 passes for 540 yards.

* Golden West tight end Tim Thurman will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he plans to play football and baseball. Thurman, a first-team Mission Conference selection, caught 31 passes for 426 yards and a team-high six touchdowns despite missing two games because of injury.

* Golden West linebacker Eti Taula, a first-team All-Mission Conference, Central Division choice, is going to Arkansas State.

Taula finished third on the team with 75 tackles and recorded a team-high six tackles-for-loss.
