Record-Setting McKinley Headed to UCLA
Fountain Valley soccer forward Cliff McKinley, who broke the school’s single season and career goal-scoring records this season, has committed to UCLA. McKinley, who has 21 goals this season and 55 over his four-year career, joins former Fountain Valley teammate Ryan Futagaki at UCLA.
“I always wanted to go to UCLA,†McKinley, a member of the under-18 state Olympic Development Program, said Monday. “It was a matter of them wanting me.â€
McKinley, who was also recruited by Cal State Fullerton, said he will receive about a 50% scholarship as a freshman.
“They’re bringing in so many kids,†he said. “It’s tough to give everyone full rides.â€
McKinley is the second county player to commit to UCLA. Irvine’s Matt Taylor announced in the fall that he was going to UCLA.
