John W. Storms; Retired Times Mirror Executive
John W. Storms, 82, former executive at Times Mirror Co., which publishes The Times. After growing up in Dayton, Ohio, where he would spend much of his career, Storms graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He served as a Navy lieutenant in the Mediterranean and the South Pacific during World War II, earning a Silver Star. Storms spent 20 years as an executive for Dayton-based McCall Corp., rising to vice president and general manager. During his McCall tenure, he chaired several charities, including a United Way campaign, and served seven years on the City Council of suburban Oakwood, Ohio. Storms joined Times Mirror in 1974 and retired in 1985 as vice president for facilities. On Friday in Tucson, of renal failure.
