Two Separate O.C. Accidents Claim 2 Lives
Two people were fatally injured late Sunday in traffic accidents on Orange County roads, authorities said.
A 43-year-old San Carlos woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Sunset Beach, police said Monday as they searched for the driver involved.
Evelyn Sinclair was crossing the highway near 25th Street with a companion shortly after 11 p.m. when she was struck by a red Toyota, investigators said. The car never slowed down, said Michelle DiMaggio, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. Sinclair died Monday in a Long Beach hospital, authorities said.
Witnesses said the car had a black top, a broken left headlight and was driven by a woman, DiMaggio said.
Investigators ask that anyone with information about the incident contact CHP Officer Sergio Flores at (714) 892-4426.
In the other fatal accident, a 16-year-old boy was killed when the car in which he was riding struck a construction vehicle, authorities said.
Dominic Gonzalez of Riverside was the passenger in a car traveling north on the Costa Mesa Freeway shortly before 11 p.m., police said.
North of Fairhaven Avenue in Orange, the driver, 19-year-old Victor Giovannini of Ontario, apparently changed lanes without looking to see if other cars were approaching, DiMaggio of CHP said.
Giovannini’s 1986 Honda was struck by another car, and he lost control of the vehicle, which then hit the construction vehicle parked on the right shoulder, DiMaggio said.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Giovannini, who sustained major injuries, was taken to the Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was later arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The CHP continues to investigate the incident, DiMaggio said.
