Extra Police Patrols Net 10 DUI Arrests

Ten people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving during intensified police patrols last week, and police said they intend to stake out Fullerton streets again this Friday night.
The Police Department put eight extra officers on patrol last Friday night to keep an eye out for possible DUI offenders. Lt. Greg Mayes said Wednesday that the sweep led to 10 arrests, one stemming from a traffic collision in which no one was seriously hurt.
The so-called saturation patrols differ from the standard DUI checkpoints set up to check all drivers passing through a particular part of town. Instead of targeting one area, the patrols blanket the city with extra police units to spot possible drunk drivers.
Mayes said the department takes part in both types of DUI enforcement, and that both are equally as effective.
