Council OKs Woolly Idea for Celebration

City officials aren’t at all sheepish about plans for next year’s Bastanchury Days festivities.
The City Council voted unanimously last week to support the Chamber of Commerce event, which will include an outdoor art exhibition featuring 75 life-size fiberglass sheep, each painted according to the whimsy of an artist and put on display throughout the downtown area from April through September.
Council members had asked for a letter of support from the Downtown Business Assn. before deciding whether to back the project themselves. The exhibition idea came as a way to promote the area’s history as a grazing pasture.
City support for the event will entail providing the necessary liability insurance coverage, with the chamber paying the premium. City staff has approved 79 locations downtown where the sheep will be placed.
