Rio Mesa tournament--Ventura High lost its final three duals and finished sixth in the two-day event at Rio Mesa.
The Cougars, The Times’ top-ranked team, finished 7-3.
Ventura lost to two-time Idaho state champion Blackfoot, 47-10, and to Arizona power Red Mountain, 50-19. Riverside Centennial defeated Ventura, 39-28.
Andy Webber was Ventura’s only individual champion. He went 9-1 to capture the 130-pound division title. Joaquin Real was third at 140 pounds.
Real, a Division I runner-up as a sophomore last season, was pinned twice. Bobby Taylor, the Cougars’ best wrestler, struggled and went 6-4 at 171 pounds.
Rio Mesa had two individual champions--Chris Davis (189 pounds) and Ryan Osgood (heavyweight). Davis was 10-0 with six pins.
Buena’s Kurt Brown (140) and Hueneme’s Ramiro Ruiz (215) also won titles.
