Cunningham Gets Baseball Job at Harvard-Westlake

Tim Cunningham, assistant baseball coach at Notre Dame High the last five years, has been named coach at Harvard-Westlake.
Cunningham, an actor who had a recurring role on the sitcom “Cheers,” will replace Mitch Miller, who resigned.
Cunningham’s son, Matt, is a freshman catcher at Rice.
“He struck me as very committed,” Headmaster Thomas Hudnut said.
VOLLEYBALL
* Courtney Schultz, who helped lead Harvard-Westlake to its fourth Southern Section championship in six years, was selected girls’ co-player of the year in Division III.
Schultz, a junior, shared the honor with Chrissie Zartman of Bishop Montgomery.
Other Division III selections included Annie Hoeksma, Karalyn Kuchenbecker and Anna Nesser of Harvard-Westlake, and Vanessa Young, Tracy Neumeier and Kalee Heydorff of La Canada.
Jennifer Ryan, who helped lead La Reina to its first section title, was co-player of the year in Division IV with Amy Fisher of Whittier Christian.
Other Division IV selections included Ashlie Hain of La Reina and Maria Abaca of Village Christian.
Tawny Thorp of Westlake was a first-team selection in Division II.
In Division V, Calais Brown of Viewpoint was a first-team selection.
Jess Quiroz of Harvard-Westlake was coach of the year in Division III. Don Hyatt of La Reina was co-coach of the year in Division IV with Lisa Bloom of Whittier Christian.
BASEBALL
* The Lancaster JetHawks will start accepting on Jan. 2 requests from Little League, Pony and softball youth teams for Dugout Teams for next season.
A limited number of games is available.
Letters of request, including team name, the name and phone number of contact person and the name of the organization should be directed to Jen Ryder, director of ticketing.

FOOTBALL
* Chaminade and Santa Maria St. Joseph have signed a two-year contract to play each other.
St. Joseph is coached by former Crespi tight end Lance Fauria and returns quarterback Dustin Kelly, who set a school record with 3,017 yards passing and 28 touchdowns.
